Mississippi tax sales: how they work
Last reviewed Aug 10, 20261 county covered
- Sale type
- Tax lien, maturing to state-forfeited land
- Redemption period
- 2 years from the tax sale
- Interest rate
- 1.5% per month (18% annually)
- Bidding format
- County tax lien auctions. Liens not redeemed within two years mature and the land forfeits to the state, which then sells it by application through the Secretary of State.
Mississippi is a lien state whose unredeemed parcels end up as state-forfeited land, sold by application rather than auction. That application process is slower than an auction but far less competitive.
